Es Kul Kul Creations

Es kul kul is a traditional Indonesian snack, especially popular in Bali. The name kul kul comes from the Balinese language and refers to a wooden slit drum—a traditional percussion instrument—because the shape of this frozen treat resembles a wooden stick or log.

Originally, es kul kul was made very simply as a homemade frozen dessert. It usually consisted of bananas or other fruit pieces skewered with bamboo sticks, frozen, and then dipped in melted chocolate. This snack became widely known as a children’s treat and a traditional market snack, commonly sold by street vendors or around schools.

Over time, particularly with the growth of Bali’s tourism industry, es kul kul evolved and became more refined. Various innovations emerged, including a wide range of toppings (such as nuts, sprinkles, chocolate vermicelli, and almonds), premium chocolate coatings, more diverse fruit fillings, and modern versions with aesthetic presentations.

In the era of social media, es kul kul has regained popularity as an iconic Indonesian tropical dessert due to its attractive appearance, refreshing and easy-to-enjoy taste, and its versatility for creative adaptations in line with current trends.

Today, es kul kul is no longer known only as a traditional snack, but is also featured in cafés and dessert shops, hotels and resorts, as well as events, weddings, and modern hampers.
